The Beginning of the End of the World.
By using humor to overcome existential angst and imperfection, I am reflecting on the world we live in and creating art based on Norse mythology mixed with US pop-culture. I see the irony in how we have come so far with science and education, but are still on the brink of extinction due to greed and ignorance. In my mind, it might have been better to worship animals and nature the way people in the North of Europe did during the Iron age, before Christianity.
In an attempt to connect to both my heritage and nature, I am re-constructing stories from the Norse Mythology and Norwegian fairy tales. Such as the creation of cosmos, where the first cow, Audumbla, was nourished by licking the ice. And by doing so, she created and uncovered the gods within the ice.
Later, the world ended with Ragnarok. The gods went to war, and the wolf Fenris ate the sun, moon and the gods. However, a new sun, moon and new gods occurred after Ragnarok. It was believed that the world was an ongoing cycle of creation and destruction. These stories give more meaning to me than the meaningless logic behind our behavior and belief systems in the western world today.
These bodies of work reflects my current life with my dog Isis, who is a white bull-terrier and my muse. The Norse gods Odin, Thor, Frøy and the Valkyrie are also used in various settings.
